Club News:
We are back in Wyoming this month! The next Miles Greenwood meeting will be held Tuesday, November 20, at 7:30pm at the Wyoming Ohio Fire Station. The fire station is at 600 Grove Avenue near Wyoming Avenue, behind Encore Bistro and Bar, (formerly Sturkey’s Restaurant). Parking is across the street in the public arts lot. Use the front public entrance to the Safety Service Building.
Thanks to Joe Eggemeier for arranging and hosting our October meeting at the Wilder Kentucky South Fire Station. It is always fun to visit new places!
At the meeting, Joe reminded the club to mark their calendars for next summer’s parade from the Drawbridge Inn to the Peace Bell in Newport. They are looking for antique fire apparatus to participate in the parade to be held on the afternoon of Sunday, August 3, 2008. If you are interested, and would like to be in the parade, contact Ft. Thomas Fire Chief Mark Bailey at 859-441-8393 or mbailey@ftthomas.org.
Our webmaster Bill Strite would like remind the membership to continue to submit photos & information to publish on the club website. Bill can be reached at webmaster@milesgreenwood.org. If you have not already done so, take a look at our site: http://milesgreenwood.org/

Joe Eggemeier sent in this interesting story he saw in Fire Chief Magazine:
A few years ago, several retired firefighters from the Tucson (Ariz.) Fire Department decided that they should open a fire museum. Unfortunately, a lack of both money and a building to house the museum prohibited the idea. However, the men were determined to find a memorable project to work on, so they decided to buy an old fire truck and convert it to a hearse that could be used for retired firefighters’ funerals. The retirees formed the Last Alarm Foundation Inc., a non-profit foundation that would fund their project and allow the Tucson community to express its appreciation for retired heroes at the same time.
After some negotiating, the retirees bought a 1954 Mack L model fire truck for $1,200. They removed the trucks hosebed and designed a 32-inch lift on which a casket could be placed and raised. It is envisioned that this apparatus will have many roles to play, including Fire Safety Education and Fund Raising functions, as well as transporting our departed Brothers and Sisters to their final places of rest.....their "Last Alarm"
For more information about the foundation and the fire truck hearse
project, go to www.lastalarmfoundation.com or call 520-444-6388.
