JULY 2008
Club News:
The next monthly Miles Greenwood meeting will be held Tuesday, July 15th, at 7:30pm. We will meet at the Wyoming Ohio Fire Station, 600 Grove Avenue near Wyoming Avenue (behind Encore Bistro and Bar, formerly Sturkey’s Restaurant). Parking is across the street in the public arts lot. Use the front public entrance to the Safety Service Building.
Everyone had a fantastic time at the 2008 Child Wellness Fair & Firefighter Competition at Perfect North Ski Slopes!
The Miles Greenwood Society sponsored the Fire Apparatus Muster. Club members displayed their apparatus and manned the club table to spread the word about this wonderful hobby and the supporting organization known as SPAAMFAA! Firefighters from around the tri-state participated in an obstacle course and children climbed through the safety/smoke house and had the opportunity to spray water with a firehose. There was also a car show and a delicious chicken dinner cooked up by the Miller-York Firefighters. Chip Lytle and the Plackes even managed to get their American-LaFrance engines to throw some water! Thanks to all those who participated, and to Jamey Ponte for pouring all his time and energy to organize the event. Great job!
At the June meeting, Paul Tieman shared stories from his road trip to Alaska including a visit to a rural firehouse. Sounds like fire protection is a challenge in the 49th state!

Cincinnati received three Ahrens-Fox 750-gpm pumpers in 1938. The trio had the unique distinction of being equipped with Seagrave pumps, the only A-F rigs to do so. They were assigned to Engines 37, 49, and 38. Serial #9056 (Engine 37 - Engine 7) is now owned by Steve Dalpe of Houston, Texas who is restoring the rig. If you have any photos of these or other Cincinnati apparatus, please let me know. I may be interested in acquiring a digital copy of your picture. Contact: Steve Hagy at stemel@fuse.net.
My husband is restoring a 1929 (rebuilt in 1935) Stutz fire
engine that was used in Arnold, Pennsylvania. I would like
the patches, badges or whatever decorations would be seen
on a uniform for a chief in that town of that era. Any
information you can provide will be appreciated. Thanks.
