Club News:
The next Miles Greenwood meeting will be held Tuesday, June
19th, at 7:30pm. We will meet at the Wyoming Ohio Fire
Station, 600 Grove Avenue near Wyoming Avenue. The fire
station is behind Sturkey's Restaurant (now Encore Bistro
and Bar). Parking is across the street in the public arts
lot. Use the front public entrance to the Safety Service
Building.
We had a fantastic May meeting at the Central Joint Fire &
EMS Station 1 in Batavia. Members had the opportunity to
tour the station and inspect the apparatus. A big thank you
to Chief Kevin Riley for hosting us and to Mark Rembis for
organizing the visit!
The 2007 Miles Greenwood Muster at the Child Wellness Fair
is here! The muster will be take place from Noon to 6pm on
Sunday, June17 (Fathers Day) at Coney Island on Kellogg
Ave. If you have any questions or would like to register
your apparatus in advance, contact Bonnie Feldkamp. If you
bring your fire apparatus to the muster, please remember
you must have wheel chalks, proof of insurance, and a 10lb
A-B-C fire extinguisher.
Good news. SPAAMFAA has a new insurance policy through a
new carrier. Be careful and let the musters begin!
Save the date! The Miles Greenwood club picnic is scheduled
for Sunday September 16th, 2007 at Chip Lytle's place in
Blueball, OH. Details to follow.
Welcome new club member Joe Eggemeier from Woodlawn KY. Joe
is active with several Northern Kentucky Fire Departments.
Great to have you along Joe!
Our webmaster Bill Strite would like remind the membership to continue to submit photos & information to publish on the club website. Bill can be reached at webmaster@milesgreenwood.org
30 Years Later
On Monday May 28, 2007 a thirty anniversary passed. For
those of you that did not experience it first hand one can
only imagine the horrific, tragic consequences.
It has been thirty years since the Beverly Hills Supper
Club Fire that ranks as the third deadliest nightclub fire
in history. I was not on site at that particular time nor
served in any capacity after the fact but experienced
difficulty accepting reality when listening to the
escalating head count reports being broadcast across the
hospital network of my new scanner. It is said that when
tragedy occurs of great magnitude you can always remember
where you were and what you were doing. At that particular
time I can test to that for I was nineteen years old. Much
of which transpired is now history but not forgotten.
To date the land has been undisturbed with exception to a
cross recently erected as temporary memorial. For some this
is considered to be sacred ground. Plans are in the works
through private and governmental agencies to develop the
site, reserving space for something more formal and
permanent. A few fixed objects still in place making
reference to the exact location. These items include five
visible stone pedestals, a fire hydrant, and an over grown
asphalt driveway to the top of the site.
Opened Service with National Anthem
Guest Speakers for the service included the following,
FATHER HEITZMAN
RABBI SCHULMANM
REVEREND DAN RIDENER
SOUTHGATE MAYOR JIM HAMBERG
KENTUCKEY STATE SENATOR KATIE STINE
ATTORNEY STANLEY CHESLEY
FORMER EMPLOYEE WAYNE DAMMERT
FORMER EMPLOYEE DAVE BROCK
FIREMEN BRUCE RATH
GUEST SURVIVORS AND SPEAKERS
Concluded with FIRE SIREN, ONE MOMENT OF SILENCE, and TAPS
byNEWPORT POLICE OFFICERCPL KUNKEL
In addition to the guest speakers in attendance were about
half dozen attending survivors as indicated by a show of
hands and fire apparatus from there respective communities
of both Northern Kentucky and Southwestern Ohio. Nick
Placke and I are grateful for the opportunity to have
attended the service as promoted earlier and wish to thank
one of our own, member Phil Eha, for his contributions in
organizing this event.

March 02, 2007 - I am restoring the 1st fire truck
our department purchased in 1951. I have located all the
parts that have been lost over the last 55 years except for
three Hardie nozzle brackets (see attached picture). Is
there any chance you could share my search request with you
members to assist us with the parts? We are willing to
purchase the brackets once they can be located. We have
been searching locally for several years without luck. Here

MACK motor wanted: I am looking for a ENF510A motor in running condition that I can put into my chassis. I would prefer a running motor but will consider one that is not running if it has minor problems and can be repaired quickly. I will also consider other Mack motors such as a 707 or END510 if it is running and it only needs to be installed. Will pay cash and can pick up in the Eastern US, I can also make arrangements to have it picked up if it to far for me to drive. Contact: David at latigo@bellsouth.net. (3/29/2007)
